Billing policy
South West Colorectal Surgery is a private practice with a private billing policy. Our fees vary depending upon the consultation, examination or procedure required. These fees reflect the costs required to sustain a high-quality service.
Consultations
We would appreciate full payment of your account on the day of consultation. You may then claim back the relevant rebate from Medicare. Currently, private health insurers do not cover consultations for out‐patients.
From time to time, the doctor may need to present your case at a multidisciplinary team meeting. In these instances, a fee is charged to Medicare.
Procedures
All procedures are performed at private hospitals. Your private health insurer may contribute towards your fees for procedures. This depends on both your level of hospital cover and your individual insurance provider. We recommend that you contact your private health insurer prior to your admittance to hospital to find out if your procedure will be covered. We appreciate payments for procedures within 28 days of an invoice being issued.
Estimates of Fees and Informed Financial Consent
When we perform procedures, we will provide you with an estimate of our fees and confirm the contact details of the private hospital where your procedure will be performed, and the anaesthetist for your procedure.
Our estimated fees do not include anaesthetist fees and hospital costs. You should contact the anaesthetist and the hospital directly to confirm the amounts they will charge. We will discuss these matters with you during your consultation.
If for any reason, your health fund declines to cover any part of our fees, you will be required to pay our fees.
Overdue Accounts
If the account is 30 days overdue, a payment reminder will be sent.
It is our policy to charge interest on amounts overdue by 30 days or more at the rate of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Cash Target Rate, plus two percentage points at the date our invoice was issued.
Additionally, you agree to reimburse us any costs incurred by us to obtain payment of overdue amounts (including debt recovery and legal costs which will be charged to you as a debt).
